Mirror / Stained Glass Classes in Brighton
Come and create your own amazing mirror or stained glass piece
I have been making mirrors and working with glass since 1991 and I now also offer one day Stained Glass Courses, using the tiffany foiling technique, from my workshop in Portslade.
You will learn the skills needed to make a small mirror, a stained glass panel, or a sun-catcher to hang in your window. Or just go with your imagination…
About the one-day course
You will learn the techniques of copper foiling, which entails cutting pieces of glass to the desired size and shape. These are then foiled and soldered together. You will learn how to do this in the morning, which leaves the afternoon for you to put your newly found skills to creating your own piece of work.
What can I make?
If you have a rough idea of what you would like to do that’s fine, but in my experience this idea of ten changes once my student has more of a grasp of the skills required and the time involved. So, I would suggest coming along with an open mind and let’s see how things develop.
If you look at my pics, this will give you an idea of what you can achieve.
Guidelines for your creating your artwork
A maximum of ten pieces of glass is recommended per design and your finished piece, if a mirror or a panel, will be approx 12″ x 6″. Circles and curves are to be avoided as they require a bit more skill and there is a limit to what can be achieved in a day!
You won’t be disappointed though, as you will be surprised as to what you can achieve in this time.
Trust me, this is more time consuming than you may think! So, in order to satisfactorily finish your design in the time allowed, there are some guidelines to be aware of regarding your finished piece.
You can even book more time if you have a specific larger project in mind. I am happy to discuss this with you.
Times and prices
Your course will start at 10am and finish at 4.30pm with a half hour lunch break. If we need to stay on a bit longer in order for you to finish your design, then that’s fine. These times are flexible though, within reason.
My courses are either one to one or a maximum of two people, if you would like to learn with a partner or a friend. This is because I want to be able to give my students my full attention, which I can’t do this sufficiently with a group of people.
The price is £110 for one person and £170 for two people.
